Thanks but.....

Thanks but no thanks… please just let me know, ok?

Shock horror.. it is possible to be employed and still search the field for greener grass yadda yadda we’ve heard this all before. Ok. I get it. I’m doing it, but.. BUT there is one thing that is really annoying.

Let’s go back...

For every candidate that sends me a CV, at least I try to say “Thanks! We’ll let you know!” and I then do actually let them know. They don’t need timewasters and neither do I.

And we are a very small company.

We don’t advertise about openings. We don’t do cool videos about how amazing it is to work for us. We don’t advertise and we don’t share much. But despite this, CV’s come. And we answer them ALL. 99% of the time it's a negative, but at least we reply.

Now, I’m all for shouting out how great work can be but nobody ever talks about follow-up.
Recently a very great and cool company for which I have enormous respect advertised for an opening. In Italy! Given the amount of content open to us mere mortals on how amazingly cool their work world was, I checked them out. Actually I have been following them for a while and LO! My dream job was there, right there on their website, OMG!! And yes, I took a deep breath, updated my CV and APPLIED. I sent in my CV! Yahoo!

I applied with a heart filled with “Maybe” “What if” “Could I?” “Should I”?? and all at once I put myself into the many shoes that had the same drive to write to me for the very same thing.

And I expected the very same treatment. After all, they do cool videos all the time about employment so they’re bound to reply right?

Wrong.

No answer. Nada. Zip. Nowt. Niente.

Umm.

This is not cool. Yes, I do have a job and yes I love it. BUT.

I applied to you. I stuck my neck out, like many others before me so if you’re going to continue to post videos about how amazing you are at employment, maybe you should work on your response strategy because a “thanks but no thanks” is way better than an “apply but we’ll never let you know…”

Just Saying.
